This award is given to an active and well run sports club that has undertaken great work in running development programmes which attract and retain participants, particularly those from under-represented groups, and which help their members to develop their sports potential. Where appropriate, the club will have worked towards gaining a high standard national accreditation or continued to retain their Clubmark status.
Highly Commended: Sir Tom Finney Soccer Centre and Football Club
The club are a thriving, highly motivated charity and football club looking to uphold Sir Tom Finney’s desire that all regardless of background or social standing or ability should have the opportunity to participate in football. They provide competitive team training at UCLan on a wednesday evening. The teams play in local leagues on Saturdays and Sundays with the majority of the teams home matches played at UCLan.
Winner: Burnley Rounder Club
Burnley Rounders Club was formed in 2013 with the aim of encouraging the people of Burnley to get back to playing the sport they all knew and loved when they were at school. Burnley Rounders Club works closely with the Sport and Play Development Unit at Burnley Leisure. They have secured funding of £10k from Sport England as a resuly of the close work with the SPDU. The indoor leagues take place in Burnley Leisure facilities as well as local high schools and the local college.
